How to choose a wedding photographer in the Quad Cities

Ask to see one full wedding, start to finish

Portfolios are highlight reels. A full gallery shows you how someone handles a dark church, a rainy exit, a crowded getting-ready room and a reception with terrible uplighting — the parts of the day nobody puts on their homepage.

If a photographer will not show you a complete gallery from a wedding similar to yours, that tells you something.

Twelve questions worth asking

• How many weddings have you shot in the Quad Cities, and at my venue specifically?
• Who is actually shooting my day — you, or an associate?
• Do you shoot as a team, and what does the second shooter cover?
• How many images should I expect, and when will I get them?
• Do you deliver a sneak peek, and how fast?
• What happens if you get sick or have an emergency?
• Do you carry backup cameras and dual memory cards?
• Are you insured? Many venues require a certificate.
• How do you handle a dark reception or a rain plan?
• What is included in travel, and where does the fee start?
• Do you offer video, or do I need to coordinate a second vendor?
• What does the payment schedule look like?

Why a photo-and-video team is different

When photo and film come from two separate companies, the day becomes a negotiation: who stands where during the first look, who gets the clean angle at the ceremony, whose lights are in whose frame.

We shoot as a married couple, which means one timeline, one set of expectations and one point of contact. It also means the film and the photos look like they came from the same wedding, because they did.

Red flags

• No contract, or a contract that never mentions a delivery deadline.
• Prices that only exist in a DM and change every time you ask.
• A portfolio of only golden-hour portraits and no real ceremony or reception coverage.
• No answer for what happens if they cannot make it.

What we would prioritize

Consistency over one perfect image. Communication over a discount. And someone whose company you genuinely enjoy — you will spend more hours with your photographer on your wedding day than with almost anyone else there.
